Dublin to trial street closures to allow children to play

A Dublin City Councillor wants communities to be able to close off their roads for play afternoons for children.

Fianna Fáil's Deirdre Heney has put forward the proposal which is now going to be trialled in Donnycarney.

Play orders would allow communities apply to the local authority to close off their road for a set amount of time to allow children play on the street.

Councillor Deirdre Heney.

Cllr Deirdre Heney said: "It's about promoting a better quality of life in communities whereby people will be able to know who lives where on their street.

"I have found over the last number of years that more and more people don't know who is living in the house across the road from them.

"I think only a positive spin-off can come from something like this."
