The 2013 traffic index from satnav maker Tom Tom shows the worst times of the week for traffic jams are Tuesday mornings and Thursday evenings.

Commuters spend on average eight working days a year in traffic.

The report has its critics however, who say its metric to measure the difference in speed between free flow and congested periods is flawed, as cities with all-day congestion won't show a difference.

The index also relies on data from Tom Tom sat nav users.
