Dublin set for taxi protests

Taxi drivers are staging a protest in Dublin city this afternoon.

Hundreds of drivers are expected to travel from the Papal Cross in the Phoenix Park to Leinster House at 2pm.

There they plan to deliver a letter to the Transport Minister Paschal Donohue.

The demonstration is over the restructuring in fares by the National Transport Authority.

Groups representing taxi drivers have said the planned changes - which are intended to increase fares - will lead to a loss of 32c per km for drivers in the case of long daytime journeys.

The changes are due to come into effect in April.
