Dublin retailers seek Garda assurances as flag protest looms

Retail Ireland has written to the Garda Commissioner about Saturday's flag protest outside Leinster House.
A group of demonstrators, led by the same man who organised 2006's Love Ulster parade, plan to take their rally from Belfast to Dublin.
The protest concerns the continuing controversy surrounding the flying of the Union flag over Belfast's City Hall.
Today, Retail Ireland's France Gleeson said that he wants assurances from the Commissioner, that the demonstration, if it goes ahead, will be contained.
"If it gets out of hand, it could have a catastrophic effect," said Mr Gleeson.
"I think one has to look at the experiences up in Belfast over the last few months where the retailers up in Belfast have seen a significant drop in their sales.
"We can't afford for that to happen in our city, in Dublin, and particularly on one of the busiest trading days of the week, Saturday."
