Dublin Port Tunnel to get first speed camera enforcement system

Dublin Port Tunnel is getting Ireland's first average speed camera enforcement system.

The average speed cameras will monitors a driver's average speed through the tunnel and if a motorist is above the 80 kilometre an hour speed limit, the driver will face penalties.

Traffic levels through the tunnel have increased by 40% over the last five years, leading to the potential for more collisions and accidents.

Work to install the system will begin tomorrow and it is expected to go live later this year.
