Dublin man accused of murder outside pub found not guilty
A Dublin man has been found not guilty of the murder of Kevin Kenny outside a pub in Inchicore more than three years ago.
Craig O'Halloran (aged 22) with an address at Heathfield, Dublin Road in Portlaoise and originally from Colepark Road in Ballyfermot had pleaded not guilty to murdering Kevin Kenny (aged 32) at the Sarsfield Road in Ballyfermot on July 31, 2011.
The jury of five men and seven women returned after more than three hours with a verdict of not guilty.
The one-and-a-half week trial heard that two groups of people arrived at Ruby Finnegans pub on First Avenue in Inchicore on July 31st and that Kevin Kenny was in one group along with his brother.
Following some contact between both groups, the court heard that events ensued resulting in the two groups leaving the pub and a "fracas" outside the pub.
Throughout the one-and-a-half week trial, the jury were shown CCTV footage of a "struggle" outside Ruby Finnegans pub followed by a group of people gathering around Kevin Kenny after he had collapsed to the ground.
Professor of forensic medicine, Jack Crane, gave evidence (March 23) that the cause of death was a stab wound to the heart.
Mr Justice Patrick McCarthy exempted the jury from service for a period of 10 years and ordered that the accused be discharged.
