Dublin duo collect €8.1m Lotto jackpot

Two lottery players from Dublin have become the country’s newest millionaires after scooping an €8.1m jackpot.

The pair, who have chosen to remain anonymous, collected their cheque from Lotto headquarters today and have begun thinking about how to spend their winnings.

“We can’t believe our luck,” said one of the winners over a glass of champagne.

“What a way to kick off the new year.”

The syndicate of two won their prize, €8,188,679 in total, in Saturday’s Lotto draw.

The jackpot had been rolling since November and included a €1m top-up added at Christmas.

The pair bought their winning ticket – a €4 Quick Pick – at Tesco in Wicklow Shopping Centre on the day of the draw.

In September, Tesco in Wicklow sold a winning EuroMillions ticket worth €272,629.
