It has emerged that the former CEO of Anglo Irish Bank David Drumm said he would "probably punch" the former Finance Minister Brian Lenihan.
The latest batch of Anglo tapes published on Independent.ie, unveils the contents of a phone conversation recorded on December 15, 2008, just days before Mr Drumm resigned in disgrace.
During the discussion Mr Drumm and John Bowe, Director of Treasury at the bank, discuss Finance Minister Brian Lenihan and the message they want to get across to him about Anglo Irish Bank’s position.
Deputy Business Editor at The Sunday Independent, Tom Lyons, explains why he thinks Mr Drumm is so angry.
Mr Lyons said: "David Drumm is voicing his frustration as he says 'I am probably going to have to punch Brian Lenihan when I meet him tomorrow morning'.
"And he says 'he needs to start writing the cheques, he needs to give us two to three billion euros'. He is so angry because he realises Anglo Irish Bank is failing and is on the brink of collapse.
"Even only two months after the bank guarantee, he is calling on it and he is asking the State to start putting billions into Anglo and he is saying that he doesn't want them to do due diligence."
