Drivers warned to take care after overnight storm

Motorists are being urged to take extreme care on the roads this morning, due to very stormy conditions.

There were gusts of up to 150 kilometres per hour in parts of the country last night.

Met Éireann issued a Status Red weather warning, which is in place until 3pm this afternoon.

Eircom will have 700 crews working today to repair network damage caused by the recent stormy weather.

Meanwhile, Irish Ferries and Stena Line have cancelled some of today's services due to stormy sea conditions.

From this morning, Ulysses and Isle of Inishmore Dublin – Holyhead cruise ferry services expected to operate as per schedule.

Fast ferry services on this route remain cancelled due to adverse weather. All affected passengers will be accommodated on cruise ferry sailings.

The early morning 8.45am sailing ex Rosslare to Pembroke and 2.55pm return sailing ex Pembroke not expected to operate because of adverse weather.

Weather expected to ease allowing scheduled services to resume with 8.45pm evening departure ex Rosslare.
