Drink driving arrests have fallen by almost 50% in just over two years.

Drink driving arrests have fallen by almost 50% in just more than two years.

Last month, 1.4% of motorists stopped at checkpoints were found to be over the alcohol limit, compared with 2.5% of drivers in 2006.

The result compares favourably with European averages - in the UK 6% of motorists stopped by police were over the drink drive limit.
