A man has been arrested following an attempted burglary at the home of a 69-year-old woman in Kilmacrennan, Co Donegal in the early hours of this morning.

A man has been arrested following an incident at the home of a 69-year-old woman in Kilmacrennan, Co Donegal in the early hours of this morning.

A man broke into the woman's home at around 3.45am.

Gardaí say he forced his way into her bedroom and demanded cash before fleeing empty-handed.

The woman, who was alone in the house, was not injured in the incident.

A 24-year-old man was arrested a short time later.

He is being detained at Letterkenny Garda Station.

There has been a series of burglaries at the homes of elderly people in Donegal in recent weeks. It is not known if this incident is linked to any of the previous burglaries.
