Donegal councillors meet to save jobs in funding row

County Councillors in Donegal are meeting this morning for crunch talks aimed at saving their own jobs.

Councillors have until midnight to pass a budget for 2014, or else lose their right to run the council.

They are deadlocked in a dispute over the introduction of water charges, despite four weeks of negotiations on the council's finances.

If no deal is reached by midnight, Environment Minister Phil Hogan will have the power to appoint a commissioner to take over the running of the council.
