Doherty: Discrimination against Irish in Australia 'seeping in'

A Sinn Féin Deputy has said he is shocked by claims Irish people are being discriminated against in Australia.
Pearse Doherty, who recently returned from a visit to the country, said he has been told that in some cases job adverts carry a disclaimer "Irish need not apply".
Deputy Doherty said there are also reports that some accommodation providers will not entertain enquiries from Irish people.
Mr Doherty said: "If you are looking for a job or a house in Australia, you usually go through an agency, so what it is now if you have an Irish accent, the agency is just hanging up the phone.
"They are not even going to give you an opportunity to say that it is discrimination, so it is something that is very much seeping in."
