The doctor who carried out an autopsy on the body of Irishwoman Nicola Furlong in Tokyo has said she was conscious and had fought back while she was being strangled.
On the second day of the trial of an American man accused of murdering the Wexford student, Dr Kenichi Yoshida said he believed Nichola was strangled for several minutes and that she eventually suffocated.
Nineteen year old Richard Hinds who is accused of her murder has already admitted lightly pressing on her neck but says it was not enough to kill her.
His lawyers argue Nichola had been drinking heavily on the night and that two sedatives were found in her bloodstream.
