Over 80 DJs are to take part in a two-day music marathon in a bid to raise thousands of euro for a top children’s charity, it was confirmed today.

All profits from the Dublin-based event will go to the Irish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (ISPCC) to boost the charity’s bid to raise €4.1m this year.

The Solas Anseo DJ Carnival will run across three Dublin venues on Saturday, August 27 and Sunday, August 28.

Over 80 DJs – including some of Ireland’s premier club, radio and dancefloor names – will step behind the decks for one hour each in a back-to-back session from 4pm to close over the two days.

The ISPCC’s Rory Murphy and Gerry Molumby of Big Brother Records on Crowe St in Dublin’s Temple Bar spent several months organising the major fundraising event at the Dublin venues – Solas, Anseo and the Carnival bar on Wexford Street.

Mr Murphy said: “We’re both long term DJs and have managed to pull in loads of favours from certain internationally acclaimed Irish artists who are in the line up.”

The DJs set to spin their magic include 2FM’s Jenny Huston and Bianca Luykx, Ollie Cole of Irish band Turn, Scott McNaughton, DJ Ezy Ryder, who played Glastonbury earlier this year, the Blue Ghost Sound System and many other regulars from Dublin’s clubland.

Six sets of home DJ systems will be raffled at the event, which is sponsored by Beck’s, in an effort to raise more money.

The charity’s events co-ordinator said all of the proceeds will go directly to the ISPCC which depends on the support of the public for 94% of its annual income.

Mr Murphy said the money will be spread across the charity’s four key services including, Childline, which provides listening support services 24-hours a day for children in need.

Around 179,611 calls were made to the support service last year.

Funds raised will also go to ’4me!’ a counselling service for vulnerable children aged between 13 and 18-years who are at risk of misusing drugs or alcohol.

The two other services to benefit from any money raised include, Childfocus, which provides a home-based service for children under 12-years, as well as, Leanbh, a service which works with children who beg or are at risk on the streets.

Organisers said a ticket office will be set up on Dublin’s Wexford Street to sell the €10 a day wristbands which will permit the wearer to enter all of the venues on one of the days.
