Det Donohoe murder: Gardaí renew appeal for information

Gardaí have tonight renewed their appeal for information about the murder of Detective Garda Adrian Donohue last week.

The 41-year-old father of two was shot in the head outside the Lordship Credit Union near Dundalk on Friday night.

Gardaí are asking anyone who saw a navy 08-D Volkswagon Passat acting suspiciously in the area to contact them.

The car - which was found burnt out in woods in south Armagh - was stolen in Clogherhead in Louth last Tuesday night.

The President and the Taoiseach will be among those in attendance at the Garda's funeral in Louth tomorrow.

Meanwhile Sinn Fein leader Gerry Adams has apologised for the IRA killing of Detective Garda Jerry McCabe 17 years ago.

The officer was gunned down by republicans during a botched post office raid in Adare in County Limerick, in June 1996.

Mr Adams tonight apologised for the attack in the Dáil as he paid tribute to murdered Detective Garda Adrian Adrian Donohue.
