Demand for package holidays to jump 10%, industry body predicts

There will be an increase in the number of package holidays on offer to Irish consumers this year, according to the Irish Tour Operators Federation, which predicts demand will rise by 10% as more people look to head to the sun.

Their prediction is due to a slight increase in disposable income and a greater interest in "all-in" packages where people know the costs.

President of the ITOF John Devereux says despite the news that Thomas Cook is pulling out of Ireland, he doesn't believe it will have a major impact on the overall market.

"In terms of package holidays, there are a number of other tour operators in the market," he said.

"It is a sad day, obviously - we've lost a number of tour operators over the years - but there is still plenty of capacity out of the Irish market to service the consumer."
