A delegation from the Department of Foreign Affairs is due to arrive in Sudan later to negotiate the release of two foreign aid workers.

Sharon Commins, 32, from Clontarf in Dublin and her 42-year-old Ugandan colleague were kidnapped by a group of armed men in Darfur.

The Minister for Foreign Affairs dispatched a high-level team from his department to the troubled African country last night.

Meanwhile, the Sudanese Ambassador is due before the Oireachtas Foreign Affairs Committee this week.

Chairman Michael Woods said he will be questioned about what the Sudanese Government is doing to ensure Sharon Commins is freed.
