Defence Forces request pay review

Members of the Defence Forces are experiencing serious injustices over pay.

Their representative organisation - PDFORRA - is calling on the government to review the pay terms of the Lansdowne Rd Agreement in light of the country's improving public finances.

The association's General Secretary Gerry Rooney says there are serious pay issues for new recruits - and for Irish personnel deployed abroad: "We are also having a dispute with the Department of defence in relation to payments for people who would work long hours like in the circumstances where they are in the mediterranean with operation point distance rescuing migrants there.

"It is our contention that there are people there paid less than minumum wage, we have a claim in to address that situation and frankly it is just not progressing enough."
