Retailer Debenhams has announced plans to hire an additional 680 seasonal staff for its 16 stores across the country.

The company has 11 stores in the Republic and 6 stores in the North.

Successful candidates will work with the department store from mid-November until the beginning of January.

The positions will be based in the menswear, womenswear, accessories, childrenswear, home, gift and cosmetics departments.

Debenhams is to recruit 6,500 temporary workers across the company as a whole, including its 150 UK stores.

Michael Sharp, chief executive of Debenhams, said: “Approximately a quarter of staff that work with us over the festive season will stay on in permanent roles, making this a crucial period in our employment calendar.”
