Dead woman's mother 'takes no pleasure' in driver's jail term
The mother of a Dublin woman who was killed while a passenger in a speeding car, has said the driver's eight-and-a-half-year jail sentence does not give her any pleasure.
Eric Wainsboro of Cherry Garth, Rivervalley, Swords pleaded guilty to dangerous driving causing the death of 43-year-old Sinead Maguire at Fairview in May last year.
In the early hours of May 29 last year, Eric Wainsboro crashed his speeding car into a tree and a lamp post.
He was being pursued by a garda patrol car when he lost control taking a right turn at around two times the speed limit in Fairview in Dublin.
Gardaí were chasing the Toyota Avensis because the 27-year-old did not pull over for a tax and insurance check.
Eric Wainsboro was badly injured, but his backseat passenger - 43-year-old Sinead Maguire -
suffered fatal neck and spinal injuries in the crash.
The car was reduced to scrap.
The victim's mother Lillian said she took little comfort in the knowledge that Wainsboro's dangerous driving had earned him eight and a half years in jail.
She said: "I take no pleasure out of the sentence. It doesn’t help. It won't bring her back."
In court it emerged that Eric Wainsboro should never have been behind the wheel that morning. He had been banned from the roads for a previous offence of driving a stolen car.
