Daniel O'Donnell's mother Julia has passed away at the age of 94.
Daniel announced the news on his official website this morning.
Julia O'Donnell died at Dungloe Community Hospital in Co Donegal, at 3.50am this morning, surrounded by her family.
"It is with great sadness that we have to announce that our dear mother Julia passed away peacefully in the loving care of the staff of Dungloe hospital surrounded by all her family on Sunday 18th May at 3.50am," Daniel wrote.
"My siblings John, Margaret, Kathleen, James and myself would like to thank you all for the kindness you have shown to her down through the years.
"May her gentle soul rest in peace."
Daniel, 52, had rushed home from Scotland where he was performing on Monday night to be at his mother’s bedside.
Julia had been widowed by the premature death of her husband Francie more than 40 years ago and raised her five children single-handed.
In recent times, she had moved in with her daughter Kathleen in Kincasslagh. She had spent a lot of her time knitting and made gloves for Queen Elizabeth and socks for the Pope.
