Daly: Govt mis-using gender to create female 'old boys club'

TD Clare Daly has accused the Government of deliberately appointing women to key positions within the courts and Gardaí to distract from cronyism.

Clare Daly said the appointments of women to positions as Garda Commissioner (Nóirín O’Sullivan) and chair of the Garda Authority (Josephine Feehily) was "a very clever spin to hide the fact that it's business as usual".

Deputy Daly and the Justice for All group have questioned why the chair of the new Garda Authority was chosen without public interviews.

She said the Government is now creating the female version of the "old boys club".

"Gender is being mis-used to keep the establishment in place," she said.
