The latest trolley and ward watch survey has shown that more than 270 people are waiting for hospital beds today.

According to the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation, there are 37 people waiting on a bed at University Hospital Limerick, 23 of them on trolleys and 14 in overflow wards.

There are 29 patients in a similar situation at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda, while South Tipperary General Hospital has 26.

In all, 277 people are on trolleys in Emergency Departments and overflow areas of wards today.

Of those, 208 people are on trolleys while 69 people are in overflow wards.
