Dáil committee considering export of power to UK grid

The Dáil Environment Committee is today discussing the potential to export surplus electricity to the UK.

Representatives from Bord na Mona and Element Power Ireland will address the committee on current and future generation and use of electricity here.

Future job creation from sustainable energy will also be discussed.

Chairman of the Environment Committee, Michael McCarthy, said Irish entrepreneurs are likely to invest in electricity generation and export.

"I think what we will see is … people who have a lot of foresight will seize on the opportunity to meet customer demand," he said, "in terms of the infrastructure that currently exists and also … meeting demand into the future."
