Dáil business suspended amid heated exchanges

Dáil business was suspended on two separate occasions this morning following heated exchanges between the Government and the opposition.

The row erupted when Fine Gael accused the Government of showing disrespect for the House.

The accusation related to Justice Minister Dermot Ahern's decision to hold a press conference to announce new legislation on victims' rights instead of presenting it to the Dáil.

Fine Gael was planning to use private members’ time in the Dáil next week to debate the matter of victims’ rights.
