A man in his 40s has died after his bicycle collided with a car in Co. Mayo.

A man in his 40s has died after his bicycle collided with a car in Co. Mayo.

The crash happened at around 11:45am on the Ballaghadreen Road, about a mile outside Ballyhaunis.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene and his body has been removed to the morgue in Castlebar where a postmortem is due to take place.

The driver of the car was taken to Mayo General with non-life threatening injuries.

The road is currently closed for forensic collision investigations.

Gardaí at Swinford are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the crash to contact them.
