A man has been killed in a road accident in Co Galway.

Gardaí in Ballinasloe are investigating the fatal collision which occurred on the main Roscommon to Galway Road (N63) at Ballygar at approximately 5.45pm this evening.

A 61-year -old male cyclist died as a result of injuries sustained when he was in collision with a car. No one else was injured in this incident.

The road is currently closed to facilitate an examination by Garda forensic collision investigators.
