A cyclist who was seriously injured in an accident in Cork city yesterday evening has died in hospital, gardaí said.

A cyclist who was seriously injured in an accident in Cork city yesterday evening has died in hospital, gardaí said.

Gardaí said the male cyclist, aged in his 40s, was seriously injured when he collided with a bollard on Shandon St in the north of the city at around 5.40pm yesterday.

He was brought to Cork University Hospital and was pronounced dead late last night.

The road was closed for a time to facilitate an examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators.

This has been completed and the road has reopened.
