Astronomy buffs preparing for shooting-star spectacular


Stargazers are in for a major treat this week, with a cloud of meteors set to create a spectacular shooting-star display in the night sky.

The Geminids - named after the constellation Gemini - make a yearly appearance and will be visible every night for the next few days.

Some of them may be obscured by the light of the moon, but Astronomy Ireland's David Moore said hundreds of shooting stars would still be visible in all parts of the sky.
