NIB to receive report on cost of An Post pay claims14/11/2005 - 10:51:22
The body set up to oversee compliance with social partnership deals is due to receive an independent report today on the cost of awarding outstanding pay increases to postal workers.
The report by a team of independent accountants was commissioned by the National Implementation Body last week as part of a deal to avert strike action by thousands of An Post staff.
The Communications Workers Union has arranged the strike in pursuit of pay increases due to its members under the Sustaining Progress agreement.
The Labour Court has sided with the company in recommending that the increases be linked to reform of work practices.
However, the CWU rejects this on the grounds that the Sustaining Progress rises were designed to meet the cost of living and were not supposed to be linked to productivity.
The union has deferred its strike plans pending the compilation of the independent report on the costs of its demands.
That report is due to be presented today to the NIB, which will then make recommendations on the way forward once it has examined the data.
