Man killed in hit-and-run

A man died following a suspected hit-and-run in Co Offaly early this morning, gardaí said.

The victim, in his 30s, was found at the roadside in Cappincur, Tullamore, at 4.40am with serious injuries.

He was taken by ambulance to Tullamore General Hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

A garda spokeswoman said the scene was cordoned off and a technical examination was being carried out.

Motorists were being warned that diversions were in place.

Investigating officers appealed to anyone who may have information in relation to the incident to contact Tullamore Garda Station on 0506 27600.
