Paris suburb plans curfew
Raincy, one of the towns in suburban Paris hit by rioting, was preparing to enact a nightime curfew today, the mayor’s office said.
A top aide to Mayor Eric Raoult said the curfew was expected to be enacted tonight or tomorrow. Details were still be drawn up, he said. He refused to be identified by name, saying Raoult himself would release details later.
The official would not say how the curfew might work. But he said that another suburban Paris town had in the past instituted a curfew to stop teenagers under age 15 from being out on the streets after 10pm at night.
The curfew empowered police to take the teenagers home or to a police station where their parents had to come to collect them, he said.
