Customs seize 700k cigarettes smuggled into Dublin Airport

Customs officers at Dublin Airport have said they have seized illegally imported cigarettes worth more than €300,000.

Officers from Revenue's Customs Service seized approximately 700,000 cigarettes in three separate operations this week.

The majority of the cigarettes arrived from Greece in freight packages labelled as car parts.

A 43-year-old Romanian national, who was arrested, has been released and a file is being prepared for the DPP.

In a separate incident, a 21-year-old Lithuanian woman was arrested when she was intercepted arriving from Moscow with more than 9,000 cigarettes in her baggage.
