A number of Dublin City Councillors have opposed plans by An Post for a 1916 exhibition in the GPO.
There are currently proposals to create a visitor centre and exhibition in the GPO in a courtyard which is not accessible to the public, leaving councillors frustrated.
According to the Irish Times the construction would see a raised courtyard deck as well as a new single-storey building and outdoor landscaped space.
The Moore St Advisory and City Councillors have requested the inclusion of the Main Hall in the plans to commemorate the centenary in 2016.
Councillor Niall Ring says the main hall should be a focal point.
He said: "I would like to see the GPO as one of the focal points in the celebrations in 2016, in the centenary of the Rising.
"I'm just worried at the moment that this isn't going to happen, so for that reason I put in an observation on the planning.
"I would hope that we'll meet with An Post executives and maybe get reassurances that the main hall will be used as the focal point."
