Newly elected Dublin City Councillors are to discuss whether Sinn Féin should hold the office of Lord Mayor in 2016 - the centenary of the Easter Rising.
The role is usually rotated amongst parties and Sinn Féin is due to elect one of its members as Dublin's first citizen.
Some councillors have claimed they will use the celebrations for party-political gain.
However, outgoing Lord Mayor Oisin Quinn does not share that view.
"I suppose some people might feel they will use the Mayoralty to perhaps stage-manage some events and take a wider political advantage," he said.
"It's been very much a tradition of the office of Lord Mayor of Dublin that party politics is dialled down once the candidate is elected to that office and represents all the people of Dublin."
