Coughlan defends lack of jobs taskforce meetings
05/11/2009 - 14:01:19Tánaiste Mary Coughlan has today defended the work of a jobs taskforce set up to look at the labour market.
It follows reports that its only met once despite the fact that around 422,000 people are on the live register.
Responding to questions in the Dáil from Fine Gael's Alan Shatter, Coughlan claimed that most of the work is carried out by a Cabinet sub-committee that meets once a week.
The Minister also said that she is in constant talks about the jobs crisis.
"The main work is done by the cabinet sub-committee and… I and my my officials meet on a constant basis in the context of activation measures with the social partners - and have done only recently" she said.
