Cost of college causing students stress

Almost three quarters of all students have said the cost of college causes them anxiety or stress.

The Union of Students in Ireland have released results of a survey which show 95% think the cost of a college course is too high at €11,000 per year or €33,000 for a degree.

While 63% of students said they will not be able to attend college if the fees go up.

USI president Kevin Donoghue said there is an alarming percentage of students experiencing depression because of the high cost of college and is calling on the government to raise grants and reduce the registration fee.

We are calling on the government to raise grants, reduce the registration fee of €3,000 and address the student accommodation crisis," Mr Donoghue said.

"This will improve the mental health of students by reducing the anxiety and depression rates caused by the cost of education."
