Corkman in custody in London over hit-and-run

A 21-year-old Corkman has been remanded in custody in London after appearing in court there in connection with the death of a Kerry father of four in an alleged hit and run.

The man was arrested by British police at Heathrow Airport after a request from Gardaí investigating the death of Paudie O'Leary from Gneeveguilla.

Mr O'Leary was found dead in a ditch after he was hit by a vehicle in July 2012 while out cycling near his home.

It is understood Gardaí have forwarded a European Arrest Warrant to Scotland Yard to have the suspect extradited.

The man was remanded in custody by a London court until February 19 after appearing in relation to the extradition application.
