Cork Simon said there is a worrying upward trend in the number of people sleeping rough on the streets of Cork.

Paul Sheehan was speaking in the wake of volunteers in Dublin stepping in to assist a homeless pregnant woman who they found unconscious on O'Connell Bridge last night.

An average of 16 people are sleeping on the streets of Cork as the city's emergency shelters are at full capacity.

The three shelters in the city can accommodate 150 people but these are full every night.
