Cork pedestrian killed in traffic accident

A pedestrian has died after being knocked down on the outskirts of Cork City this afternoon.

A pedestrian has died after being knocked down on the outskirts of Cork City this afternoon.

The accident happened on the Ballyhooley Road near Ballyvolane just before 1pm.

It is understood that the man, who may have been out jogging, was hit by a car.

He was pronounced dead at the scene and a section of the road from Whites Cross to Ballyvolane Cross has been closed off for a forensic examination.

Gardaí at Mayfield are investigating the circumstances of the crash.

Anyone who may have witnessed the accident or can assist gardaí in any way is asked to contact Mayfield garda station on 021 455 8510.
