Cork man jailed for four years for rape of girl at funfair

A 51-year-old Corkman has been jailed for four years after being convicted of the rape of a 12-year-old girl at a funfair in Co Cork over 20 years ago.

The man was found guilty of the rape by a jury at the Central Criminal Court last November.

He had been remanded in custody for sentencing today when Mr Justice Paul Carney sentenced him to six years in jail with the final two years suspended.

Mr Justice Carney said he was basing his sentence on a number of factors including the inherent gravity of the offence, the age of the victim and the breach of trust involved.
