They were alerted after the emergency services were called to a house in the Friar's Walk area of the city this afternoon.

The new born baby boy was pronounced dead at the scene and was removed to Cork University Hospital.

The house where the baby's body was found remains sealed off. The baby's mother was also taken by ambulance to hospital where she is receiving medical treatment.
