Confusion over Irish citizens detained in Egypt
The Department of Foreign Affairs says it has not been able to confirm whether the four Irish citizens being held in Egypt have appeared in court.
It was reported earlier that the Halawa siblings were due to appear before prosecutors this afternoon, amid hopes that they could be released afterwards.
However it has not been confirmed whether the court proceedings have actually taken place, and there is no word on when the family could be free to travel home.
A group of protestors, both from Ireland and Egypt, held a demonstration outside the Egyptian embassy in Dublin calling for their release.
Their sister Nusayba Halawa says if they haven't appeared in court today, they will spend another night in jail.
"We're still waiting for them to release them, because seven o'clock in Egypt, everything stops," she said.
