Community 'will do what they always do and help the family' after woman's moving-van death
A local councillor has said the communities affected by a road accident in Co Galway will have to unite behind the families affected.
Two women in their early 20s were found seriously injured on the road from Barna to Moycullen in the early hours of yesterday morning.
It is understood the women may have fallen from a moving van in which seven people were travelling following a social event earlier that night.
No vehicle was present when emergency responders arrived at the scene. It is believed the van was not involved in a collision.
One of the women - Cliodhna Thornton from Coismeigmór, Furbo - later died from injuries she suffered when she fell from the vehicle. A post mortem examination is to be carried out.
The second woman remains in a serious but stable condition at University Hospital Galway.
Speaking to Galway Bay FM, local councillor Seosamh O'Cualain said the communities in Moycullen and Furbo will do their best to support the affected families.
He said: "It's very, very hard to take. I'm sure the communities will do what they always do and help the families in the days. weeks, months and years to come."
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information, particularly those who may have been travelling on the N59, Galway-Moycullen Road or the Barna-Moycullen Road, Co Galway this morning, between the hours of 1.45am and 3.15am, to contact them at Salthill Garda Station on 091 514720, The Garda Confidential Line, 1800 666111 or any Garda station.
