Committee refuses to give whistleblower transcript of own evidence

The Dáil's Public Accounts Committee has refused to issue a Garda whistleblower with a transcript of his own evidence.

TDs have refused a request from Sergeant Maurice McCabe's legal representatives to provide a full transcript of his private hearing last week.

Sergeant McCabe is one of two Gardaí to have made allegations of corruption in the management of the penalty points system.

The decision not to give him a transcript means the substance of his claims is now unlikely to be made public.
