Facebook is being urged by the Data Protection Commissioner to tighten security in order to ensure that users' personal information is kept private.
It has been conducting an audit of the social networking site for the past three months, which included working at Facebook's HQ in Dublin.
The Report by the Commissioner is recommending that a mechanism is put in place so users can make an "informed choice" about how their information is used on the site, as well as by Third Party Apps.
It has also urged that information held on users and non-users be deleted by Facebook much sooner than is already the case.
It recommended that Facebook makes it easier to control what your friends are posting about you and what posts you are tagged in.
Responding to the report, Facebook said it has agreed to change a number of its policies in relation to retention of data, as well as adding notifications to the Tag Suggest feature.
