The Justice Minister and interim Garda Commissioner are rejecting claims that the force is "ill-disciplined" and out of control.
Frances Fitzgerald and Noirin O'Sullivan made the comments in the wake of new allegations from Garda Sergeant Maurice McCabe that penalty points are still being cancelled.
Commissioner O'Sullivan said she is treating the new allegations very seriously, but believes the practice is not widespread.
"I do not think that that should detract in any way from the excellent work that the men and women of An Garda Siochána do," she said.
"It would be very unfortunate that we would jump to conclusions to suggest that … the entire force are in any way responsible or ill-disciplined."
The Minister and the Commissioner said any infringements will be dealt with the utmost seriousness and action will be taken if necessary.
Senior Garda management including Commissioner O'Sullivan are to meet with Sergeant McCabe at Garda Headquarters in Dublin this afternoon.
