Collins: 'Lapgate' not typical of Dáil behaviour

Fine Gael TD Aine Collins says an incident in the Dáil with her colleague Tom Barry last week was not typical of the chamber.

A video clip of Deputy Barry pulling Deputy Collins into his lap during a debate on the abortion legislation in the early hours of the morning went viral and drew criticism from women's groups.

Deputy Collins this morning said she accepts the Cork East TD's apology, and said that while it was disrespectful - it was not typical of the Dáil.

“It was unfortunate, it was disrespectful and it shouldn’t have happened," she said.

“Deputy Barry apologised and I accepted that apology."

She did say however that she took offence to the incident initially being described as "horseplay" by Fine Gael.
