Coastguard called out to rescue two walkers by Dun Laoghaire

Two walkers have been rescued by Dun Laoghaire inshore lifeboat, after they were cut off by a rising tide.

The pair raised the alarm by mobile phone and kept trying to walk towards shore.

But when they found themselves waist deep in the sea around half a mile off Sandymount, they returned to a sandbank to await rescue.

The coastguard helicopter based at Dublin Airport was also dispatched.

Both the chopper and the lifeboat arrived to help the people at 12.15pm.
